On Thursday July 5, VHHS celebrated NAIDOC Week by inviting local Ngarrindjeri artists, Phyilis Williams and Cedric Varco for a hands-on workshop throughout lunch break. Students were offered an opportunity to learn traditional dot painting and basket weaving techniques.

We would also like to congratulate VHHS students Jacqueline Wood and Kiara Willis who were both awarded NAIDOC Week Awards at the local Victor Harbor celebrations.

  • Jacqueline Wood – Female Youth of the Year is an Aboriginal Youth Action Committee member and a student at Victor Harbor High School.  She has volunteered to plan cultural events and activities.  She has become a leader of the committee.  “Jacquie goes above and beyond and seeks every opportunity to lend a helping hand,” the judges said.
  • Kiara Willis – Sportsperson of the Year is well-respected as a leader among her peers.  She continues to thrive and motivate others.  She is involved as a player and umpire at the Goolwa Netball Club, as well as the SASSTA Aboriginal Sports Academy at Victor Harbor High School.  She recently performed at Adelaide Oval for the Power Cup.
